Alvarado High School’s FFA chapter had five teams comprised of 21 students participate at the Area VIII Leadership Contest last weekend and all five teams finished in the top half with two advancing to state.

“This is a great honor due to the fact that only 24 teams in each competition across the state of Texas will make it to this level,” Ag Science teacher Jerrod Crumpton said. “Our students have worked extremely hard and are very excited to represent Alvarado FFA.”

In order to advance, teams must place in the top two at the area level. The Sr. Farm Skills team of Justin Crumpton, Cait Moore and Parker Pollard were named Area champions as they took first place.

Placing second to advance to state was the Jr. Quiz team of Cadie Haas, Connor Stevenson, Wade Alford and Amber Campbell.

The Jr. Chapter Conducting team of Emily Skeleton, Melanie Moon, Tanner Balentine, Faran Atkins, Kacy Boon, Camila Quintana and Kadyn Moore narrowly missed advancing as the team finished fourth.

The Public Relations team of Kaylee Wilson, Maddison Reynolds, Steve Sanchez and Makayla Luckie placed sixth and the Jr. Farm Skills team of Emanuel Garcia, Gracie Dunivan and John Puckett placed fifth.

The state competition will take place Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at Sam Houston State University.
